Integrity Is The Name Of The Game -
One day I had lunch at Burger King, and I paid for my Meal with
a five-dollar bill. The cashier handed me back five dollars and
change. It might be tempting in that situation to smirk and pocket
the money, thinking, "Man, I just got paid for eating lunch. What
a deal!" I'm glad that I didn't do that. I gave her back the five
and told her that she was mistaken about how much change she owed
me. She said, "Oh, thank you, thank you" several times. I wondered
what would have happened to her if I had kept the cash. Would
it have come out of her paycheck? If that happened often, would
prices go up?
When we're
dishonest, even in small things, we hurt ourselves and others.
It isn't worth 5 dollars to do something dishonest. You'll be
successful in life if your integrity isn't for sale. There will
be times in your life when you're tempted to sell your integrity
for money. Don't do it. Other people's respect for you is worth
more than money.
What can
you buy with money that's worth more than your good character?
Absolutely nothing! If you're tempted to get something that isn't
rightly yours, remember that it doesn't matter if you get away
with it. God sees it, and He is more interested in developing
your character than in fattening your wallet.
So if you
find a wallet someone lost, return it. If you're given too much
change at the store, give it back. If you were the one losing the
money, you would want someone else to be honest. Be someone who
considers honesty more valuable than money! Besides, if you're a
Christian, don't you think you ought to act like one?
