Small
Things Make A Difference
- Sometimes
the smallest thing can teach us the biggest lessons. Take watermelon
seeds. William Jennings Bryan was so intrigued by them He said:
"I have observed the power of the watermelon seed. It has the
power of drawing from the ground and through itself 200,000 times
its weight. When you can tell me how it takes this material and
out of it colors an outside surface beyond the imitation of art,
and then forms inside of it a white rind and within that again
a red heart, thickly inlaid with black seeds, each one of which
in turn is capable of drawing through itself 200,000 times its
weight - when you can explain to me the mystery of a watermelon,
you can ask me to explain the mystery of God." Just a little seed
but so powerful.
You may say what kind of influence can I be in this big world.
It only took one small seed to grow a watermelon and it only takes
one life committed to Jesus Christ to change the world. God can
use the little things of this world to make big changes. The Lord
used 12 men to make a difference in a world much like we live
in today. They were not special by the worlds standards but they
planted the seed of faith in the world and our Lord is still using
that seed to win hundreds of people everyday!
Remember,
don't get so caught up in the big things of life that you forget
the things that you consider minute. While taking care of tasks
that are really important, we should not overlook the little things
that God brushes up against our souls every day. It might be a
watermelon seed, or an ant, a butterfly, a bee, or brief eye contact
with a total stranger, or any of a thousand things we could name.
Without those little things the world would be incomplete. So,
When you see those little things remember the power of our God
and that each of them has its own message from our Father. The
message of the little things to God's creation is, "This is God.
I love you. "
