Do
You Know What You Have
- Once upon a time,
a man owned a race horse. He didn't see much potential in that animal
as a money-maker. In fact he would grumble and call the horse a
looser! He finally "unloaded" the horse and sold him for $1,000.
The next owner felt the same way aabout the horse and sold him for
$2,000. The third owner didn't like the horse and determined to
get rid of the looser. But he did even better than the first two
and sold the horse for $10,000. The fourth owner soon took advantage
of an opportunity to trade the horse for what he determined was
two quality horses. Even the fifth owner thought he was wasting
his time with the horse and got rid of him because he decided there
wasn't enough potential to bother. Finally, someone took a risk,
buying the horse that nobody wanted - for $25,000.
The horse was known as John Henry. And the fact is that John Henry
became the leading money-maker in racing history in 1981. When he
was eventually retired from racing, he had been credited with earning
more than six million dollars during his career. Six men had owned
a winning race horse and didn't realize what they had.
Do you know what you have? Do you know all the blessings that come
packaged in Jesus Christ. Have you forgotten the love, joy and peace
that is available to all who come to Christ? As followers of Christ,
we have so many more resources than we realize. If you just examine
the fruit of the Spirit it will blow your mind. Galatians tells
us, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering,
gentleness, goodness, faith, Meekness, temperance: against such
there is no law. And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh
with the affections and lusts. If we live in the Spirit, let us
also walk in the Spirit.
Let us determine that, regardless of what life brings, we will do
our best to discover the glorious treasures Christ offers us for
living. He desires for us to have victory in the here and now.
